HappyNeuron integration: putting cognitive performance into a data-driven context

By integrating HappyNeuron, the Datico® LIFE HUB extends its data world with a dimension that has rarely been integrated so far: cognitive performance. Via a jointly coordinated API interface, the type of cognitive tests, the difficulty level and the test results are captured and analyzed in the Datico® LIFE HUB.

This makes it possible, for the first time, to view cognitive results together with physiological and performance-related data – an important building block for a truly holistic assessment.

What is HappyNeuron?

HappyNeuron Pro is a digital software for cognitive training and cognitive tests. It comprises numerous cognitive exercises across various domains – including attention, memory, executive function, language, processing speed as well as visual-spatial and auditory abilities – and documents progress through automated reports.

HappyNeuron is used in particular in cognitive rehabilitation (for example after stroke, traumatic brain injury or in multiple sclerosis), in cognitive remediation and in cognitive stimulation. The solution is scientifically grounded and used internationally.

Challenge: cognitive data stays isolated

Cognitive tests and training deliver valuable results – yet in practice these usually remain within the respective application. The relationship to physiological responses, load situations or additional performance data is often missing.

Especially in demanding study and application environments, however, it is decisive to view cognitive performance not in isolation but in the context of the overall load and performance picture.

The Datico® solution: coordinated API to Device Connector and Live Control

HappyNeuron is connected via a jointly coordinated API interface assigned to the Device Connector of the Datico® LIFE HUB. Because the cognitive tests in the described project were captured live and time-synchronized with other measurements, the integration also has the character of a Live Control capture.

What is transferred is the type of tests, the difficulty level and the test results. This data is analyzed in the Datico® LIFE HUB – as defined in the respective study or application design – and placed into an overarching context.

The integration follows the thread of the Datico® Data Value Chain: data is connected (Data in Connection), transformed into insights (Data in Context), made available in an understandable way (Data in Communication) and managed in a privacy-compliant and vendor-independent manner (Data in Consistency).

Added value through analysis

The real benefit comes from combined analysis. In the Datico® LIFE HUB, the cognitive results can be combined with physiological data, performance data and additional parameters.

On this basis, correlations can be made visible, trends analyzed and results contextualized. This makes it possible to understand how cognitive performance behaves under certain conditions – and cognitive results become part of a holistic performance assessment.

Application in practice

HappyNeuron was integrated as part of a research project at the Max Planck Institute in Göttingen – the same project in which the integration of Emotion Fitness was also realized.

Two HappyNeuron workstations were set up in the altitude chamber. There, the patients performed cognitive tests and cognitive training as part of the study. Via the coordinated API interface, the type of tests, the difficulty level and the results were captured and analyzed in the Datico® LIFE HUB as described in the study design.

In this way, the results of the cognitive tests and training fed into the overall assessment of performance in the altitude training chamber. This somewhat unusual interface shows how flexibly even cognitive data can be integrated into a time-synchronized overall picture.

Relevance for neuro rehab and research

For neurological and cognitive rehabilitation as well as for science and research, such an integration is particularly valuable. Cognitive performance is a central but often hard-to-objectify factor. When the results are merged in a structured way in the Datico® LIFE HUB, progress can be documented, assessed individually and interpreted in relation to additional parameters.

The focus is not on the individual test, but on the structured availability of cognitive results for analysis, documentation and decision support.

Conclusion

The integration of HappyNeuron shows how even cognitive test and training data can be integrated into a central health and performance data platform. Via a coordinated API interface, cognitive results fit time-synchronized into the Datico® LIFE HUB, where they are merged with physiological and performance-related parameters.

This turns cognitive results into a building block of a holistic assessment – a consistent step toward Better Data. Better Decisions. Better Outcomes.

Frequently asked questions

Are HappyNeuron systems compatible with the Datico® LIFE HUB?
Yes. HappyNeuron can be connected to the Datico® LIFE HUB via a coordinated API interface. Among other things, the type of cognitive tests, the difficulty level and the test results are captured and subsequently analyzed in the Datico® LIFE HUB.
Which data from HappyNeuron is imported?
What is imported is the type of cognitive tests or training performed, the respective difficulty level and the test results. This makes it possible to document cognitive performance in a structured way and to analyze it together with additional parameters.
How is HappyNeuron connected?
The integration is realized via a jointly coordinated API interface assigned to the Device Connector of the Datico® LIFE HUB. Because the cognitive tests in the described project were captured live and time-synchronized with other measurements, the integration also has the character of a Live Control capture.
Can cognitive data be combined with physiological and other data?
Yes. That is precisely where the added value lies. In the Datico® LIFE HUB, the results of the cognitive tests can be viewed together with physiological data, performance data and additional parameters. This way, cognitive results feed into a holistic assessment of performance.
Which cognitive areas does HappyNeuron cover?
With its exercises, HappyNeuron addresses attention, memory, executive function, language, processing speed as well as visual-spatial and auditory abilities, among others. Through the integration, the corresponding results are made available in a structured way in the Datico® LIFE HUB.
For which use cases is the integration particularly relevant?
The integration is particularly relevant for neurological and cognitive rehabilitation as well as for science and research. Wherever cognitive performance is to be assessed in relation to additional medical or performance-related parameters, a high added value emerges.
Does the Datico® LIFE HUB replace the HappyNeuron software?
No. The Datico® LIFE HUB does not replace HappyNeuron but complements it. HappyNeuron remains the solution for cognitive tests and training. The Datico® LIFE HUB handles the central merging and analysis of the results together with additional data sources.
