Order Entry
From external order to complete result – automatically.
HIS, PIS, and administrative systems send orders into the Datico® LIFE HUB.
The LIFE HUB initiates the precise examination workflow, orchestrates connected
devices, and routes all results back to the originating order.
Data in Connection
The complete order lifecycle.
Order Entry connects external ordering systems with the examination workflow in the LIFE HUB – bidirectional, fully automatic, and without any media break. From the incoming order through device deployment to result return, everything runs as one seamless process.
Step 1
Order intake – what the LIFE HUB accepts.
The Datico® LIFE HUB receives orders from any external system – via standardised interfaces such as HL7, FHIR, or GDT as well as vendor-specific protocols and the Smart API. Hospital information systems, physician information systems, and administrative management systems can send orders directly into the LIFE HUB without any manual transfer.
What can be transmitted as an order is not limited to medical contexts: examination appointments, therapy prescriptions, training appointments in sports medicine, or fitness-for-duty examinations for emergency services – any kind of structured order with subject reference, appointment, and service code is processed.

Steps 2 & 3
Order → Procedure → Precise workflow.
Every incoming order is mapped to an event template or series template in the LIFE HUB via configurable procedures. This template defines exactly which devices are addressed, which parameters are captured, and in which sequence the workflow unfolds. No manual setup per examination – the process starts automatically.
Procedure Mapping
Service codes (e.g. ICD, OPS, internal codes) or order types are mapped once to procedures in the LIFE HUB. When an order arrives with code "8521", the procedure "Lactate Step Test Standard" starts automatically.
Event & Series Templates
The procedure references an event template (single examination) or a series template (follow-up study). The template defines which measurement parameters, in what sequence, at which devices – fully pre-configured.
Device Orchestration
Via the Device Connector, the LIFE HUB addresses connected devices in the sequence defined by the template – even when the HIS or PIS has no direct device connection of its own. The LIFE HUB handles the translation between order and device.
Live Control Integration
For time-critical examinations (e.g. stress tests in altitude chambers), Order Entry transitions seamlessly into Live Control mode – real-time data flows directly into the running order.

Step 4
Results back. Complete. Automatic.
After the examination is complete, all measurement results are automatically assigned to the originating order – no manual assignment step, no data loss. In the LIFE HUB, any number of sources can be merged: device data, Smart Forms results, manual clinician notes, questionnaires.
The result is a complete, order-bound dataset – which can be tracked longitudinally across all collection time points within a project framework. Follow-up examinations over weeks or months are not an organisational burden but automatically structured.
If required, results are subsequently fed back to the originating system automatically – via KIS Connector, GDT reply, or Smart API.
Capabilities
What Order Entry delivers in the LIFE HUB
MULTI-SOURCE INTAKE
Orders from HIS, PIS, administrative systems, and directly via Smart API – all sources are handled in one unified process.
FLEXIBLE MAPPING
Service codes, ICD/OPS codes, or internal keys are freely mapped to LIFE HUB procedures and templates – fully configurable.
DEVICE ORCHESTRATION
Connected devices are automatically addressed via the Device Connector – even when the external system has no direct device connection of its own.
AUTOMATIC ASSIGNMENT
All results are automatically assigned to the triggering order – no manual post-processing, no assignment errors.
MULTI-SOURCE RESULT
Device data, Smart Forms, clinician notes, and questionnaires are merged into one complete, order-bound dataset.
LONGITUDINAL PROJECTS
Orders for one patient or programme are merged into a shared project over any time span – for trend analysis and therapy monitoring.
Use Cases
Order Entry in practice.
The HIS prescribes a performance diagnostic for a rehab patient. The LIFE HUB receives the order via HL7, automatically initiates the step test workflow with all required devices, and sends the report back to the HIS via GDT after completion.
The federation plans squad diagnostics and submits orders with athlete list, appointment, and performance profile. The LIFE HUB automatically creates the examination sequences, addresses all devices, and consolidates results per athlete in their long-term datasets.
The study protocol defines measurement time points as orders. The LIFE HUB receives these automatically from the CRF system, executes examinations according to protocol, and makes results available with GCP-compliant documentation.
Fitness-for-duty examinations are managed centrally and transferred as orders into the LIFE HUB. Examination workflows start automatically, results are assigned to the order, and are immediately available for the fitness assessment.
