Gregor Gretz finishes the 2026 Boston Marathon in a personal best – 2:52:42

With another sporting milestone, Gregor Gretz, CTO and Head of Software Development at Datico®, continues his impressive marathon series: at this year’s 2026 Boston Marathon, he finishes in 2:52:42 hours – setting a new personal best.

A special run on a historic course

The Boston Marathon is considered one of the most storied and, at the same time, most demanding marathon races in the world. The course is known for its challenging profile – particularly the notorious climbs around Heartbreak Hill.

That makes running a personal best under these conditions all the more remarkable. That is exactly what Gregor achieved this year – with a race shaped from the outset by consistency, race management and mental strength.

The road to Boston – consistent and structured

Taking part in the Boston Marathon is anything but a given. Gregor qualified for the World Marathon Majors at the Prague Marathon, where he reached the required qualifying time – and so began his dream of completing all Major Marathon events worldwide.

Building on that, a continuous development followed across further major races:

  • Berlin Marathon
  • Chicago Marathon
  • 2026 Boston Marathon – personal best (2:52:42)

This is progress in action – not only in the results, but also in the approach to training and competition.

Performance through structure and continuity

What is reflected in the results is no coincidence. Behind Gregor’s development is a consistently built training process that has been refined further and further over an extended period.

At its core are:

  • a clean training periodisation
  • the continuous evaluation of performance data
  • and the targeted adjustment of load and recovery

This structured approach forms the foundation for sustainable performance gains – in competitive sport just as in many other data-driven fields.

More than a single success

With his successful finish in Boston, Gregor underscores once again that long-term development, discipline and a clear methodical approach are decisive factors for sporting success.

For him personally, the new personal best is another step on his journey through the great international marathon races – and at the same time a strong example of what is possible through consistent execution and continuous development.

“The Boston Marathon was an incredibly impressive event. To feel the 130 years of tradition throughout the entire city and to start in the first wave was the absolute crowning moment for the hard training of recent months. What will stay with me most is the incredible support from the spectators along the course – above all the legendary Wellesley College ‘Scream Tunnel’. This experience shows me what is possible with motivation and perseverance. Anyone who gets the chance to run this marathon should absolutely do it!”
